Long Fall Kills Banker

Man Who Worried After Promotion Found Dead Under 175 Foot Bridge.

Philadelphia, June 10.—The body of Henry S. Shermer, assistant treasurer of the Germantown Saving Fund Society, was found beneath the Walnut Lane Bridge over Wissahickon Creek early this morning. shermer either had jumped or fallen from the bridge, which is 175 feet above the creek, the highest single span concrete structure in the world. His accounts, so officials of the society say, are in perfect condition.

He was 45 years old and married but had no children. For years he had been teller in the institution with which he was connected. About a month ago Charles M. Spiegel, treasurer, was killed when the carriage in which he was driving was struck by a trolley car. Shermer was promoted and from that time on he worried, friends say. He had been ill and seemed to feel unequal to the duties of his new post. On Friday he asked President Henry to transfer him to his old place.
